Latest Updates from Our Project:

Busy Busy Month!
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Mar 30, 2021 at 10:00:40 AM

So there's a few thing we want to cover in this update so I'll try to provide as much insight into how things are going. Overall everything is very positive!

Art -

Andrew is crushing it. We are nearing the mark where all the color roughs for the entire project are done and then all that's left will be color finals which will take a while. By our timelines we estimate to be about 4 weeks behind where we want to be but the scope of the art in this project is massive and we hope to deliver the best product we can.

Here's the color roughs you have not seen for the other areas in the Capital City.

In the KS we showed the 'Capital City' color rough and the 'Castle' zoomed in map as well as the 'Dungeon' below it. Here are the other places within the massive capital city district.

Keep in mind these are all color roughs (about 50-60% finished)

Grand Temple (also featuring a huge library and fantasy parliament concept)
Crypts Below the Grand Temple
City Guard Compound
City Shop District
Sewers below the City

Town Builder Pad -

As we've been focused a lot on art production we are starting to turn our attention to the non art aspects of the project as well. One of the products we're most excited about is the Town Builder Pad. I for one as a DM would find a pad with these details extremely helpful in organizing my cities.

Here is a link to the in progress Pad. Feedback is welcome.

Pledge Manager / Pre-Orders -

Here is where we are going to be very honest. Right now material prices and shipping prices are extremely high and the estimates we're getting from our partners in these areas are very inflated. We don't need to lock in prices until the summer at which we will be able to have a lower shipping cost and help subsidize due to lower manufacturing costs as well.

For the time being we're holding off on charging shipping and opening the pledge manager till the summer as we are expecting the rates to be lower giving you a lower shipping cost.

This really has little effect on those of you that have already pledged but mostly those waiting for pre-orders to open.

Best,

TWG Team

All the "City View" Color Roughs are DONE!
about 5 years ago – Wed, Feb 10, 2021 at 11:51:46 PM

Hey Wanderer's,

The last few weeks have been extremely productive.

In The Wanderer's Guide there's 3 levels of zoom with some small variation within them, but it essentially the World View, The City View, and the Building View where we can see the 3-D cutaways.

The City View ones you've already seen on the KS page and updates are :

- Capital City

- Port City

- Farming Village

- Mountain Stronghold

Here are the rest in the color rough stage. Keep in mind the color rough ranges in finish from about 40% - 60%. These will be much more polished in the final version.

Archipelago
Forest Village
Wilderness Outpost

Would love for your feedback on these!

Mountain Stronghold - Color Rough

Thanks so much for all your feedback and notes. I think this color rough turned out amazing implementing a lot of the ideas that were mentioned! Stay tuned for more amazing art. :)

Mountain Stronghold Line Drawing

One of the map pieces I've been most excited about is the mountain fortress. A few tweaks from this line drawing are going to be made, but would love to hear your thoughts!

A Look Into The Art Process
about 5 years ago – Mon, Jan 18, 2021 at 10:58:24 PM

So Andrew is full steam ahead working on art and we have a lot of amazing stuff to show you in the coming weeks, but I wanted to show you a bit of our process.

1. Lance and I put our heads together and start brainstorming all kinds of cool ideas for the map we're working on. We google a bunch of images to create a type of mood board and show it to Andrew. It looks like this. Most of the notes are gone from this because this is after we did a second run.

Wizard's Tower Ideas

2. Andrew will sketch out a concept drawing often right in that initial meeting and we will make a lot of on the fly adjustments to get to a good starting point.

Rough Sketch

3. He'll take our list and his approved concept sketch and do a line drawing form. When this is delivered we will often go over a lot of tweaks and adjustments as this is the best case to catch anything major.

Line Drawing

As you can see here we made a pretty immense change to the 3rd floor because our original idea was to have a maze like floor and the art concept was not panning out well. So we switched to a room of guardians.

Revised Line Drawing

4. After we get all the feedback Andrew start's on the color rough. This is where the image really comes to life. Andrew considers the art 60% done at this point.

Color Rough

5. We have a last meeting on that piece and try to push in as many cool little details as possible before going to final. Most of the art you saw on the KS was color rough and the book will all be final.

Final

A few things you can see that are different in the final vs color rough.

1. The outside elements are far more detailed and vibrant.

2. The lighting effects really pop.

3. The color is more rich and saturated.

4. The level of details increases a lot. For example, Notice the uniqueness of the plants, the detailing on the colored orbs, the demonic shadows and chains in the summoning chamber, added equipment in the study, and lightning orb in the observatory.

Hope you enjoyed learning  a bit about our process and will be very satisfied with the final product.

Our next pieces we will work on are the Great Temple in the Capital City, the crypts below it, the mountain city, and the warlord's fortress. Tell us all the things you want to see in these art pieces and we'll see how many we can get in there!
